                                                                                Alexandra Martinou has received the
          Contribution Award for                                                Social Contribution Award 2024 at this
                                                                                year’s Efkranti Awards, presented by Naf-
          lifelong dedication to                                                tika Chronika.
                                                                                The awards have been organised annu-
          protecting Greece’s children                                          ally for 17 years by Naftika Chronika. The
                                                                                purpose of the awards is to highlight the
                                                                                leading figures of the year in the shipping
                                                                                industry, selected by a diverse panel of
                                                                                judges who represent maritime scholar-
                                                                                ship, academic research, and specialised
                                                                                media.
                                                                                Mrs Alexandra Martinou has been active
                                                                                in volunteerism and community service for
                                                                                many years, working tirelessly to protect
                                                                                the children of Greece. She is a founding
                                                                                member and president of the NGO “To-
                                                                                gether for Children”, which was founded
                                                                                in Athens in 1996. It is an ‘umbrella’ or-
                                                                                ganisation of child protection associations
                                                                                that aims to help children in Greece to
                                                                                claim the future they dream of. “Together
                                                                                for Children” and its member associations
                                                                                work daily for the wellbeing of more than
                                                                                30,000 children each year.
                                                                                Its work and programmes aim to provide
                                                                                relief to economically vulnerable families
                                                                                and to children experiencing disability and
                                                                                illness. They also strive to offer opportuni-
                                                                                ties to children and young people living in
                                                                                remote areas of the country. The organi-
                                                                                sation also implements programmes that
                                                                                support children and families, focusing on
                                                                                combating poverty, promoting physical
                                                                                and mental wellbeing, providing educa-
                                                                                tion, and assisting populations affected
                                                                                by natural disasters.
